Organizing Tips for Multi-Functional Rooms

Often spaces in our homes need to serve more than one purpose. Especially if you work from home or have children, you may be finding yourself trying to create space for different functions all in one room. Here are some things to consider when trying to create multi-functional spaces in your home:Be specific about the purpose: Know what functions the room is being used for and keep only items that currently relate.Weigh each function: Determine how the space will most often be used.  How you've used the room in the past will help predict how to plan for the future. For example-- if you’re using a guest bedroom as an office 90% of the time and as a guest bedroom only 10% of the time, plan accordingly. Purchase furniture according to the way you will use the space. If guests will be infrequent, maybe a Murphy bed is a good choice. However if you have very frequent guests and only use the office space to stash things, a cute bedroom setup may motivate you to keep the clutter to a minimum.Wait to purchase furniture and storage pieces: Once you decide about the function of the room, don't run out and purchase furniture and containers. Go through every single item in the room so you know what needs to stay and what can go elsewhere.Maintain order: A room that is multi-functional has a greater chance of getting cluttered so you need to stay on top of the organization. Tidy up frequently. Time spent organizing will pay off because you'll know what you have, you will be able to find what you need more quickly and you will appreciate your space much more.
