Cross Raking the Leaves off your To Do List
With the busy lives we live, it's always good to find something we can eliminate from the to-do list. Here's something that the National Wildlife federation is urging: they are asking people to avoid raking their leaves. They say that small animals, insects and wildlife need these crucial habitats, and those leaves are important to our eco-system. If you live in a community with manicured lawns, you don't want the sitting leaves to destroy your lawn (and your neighbors probably don't want to see your leaves piling up either). The best solution is to rake them off the lawn and into flower/garden beds. It's a lot easier to rake them off the grass, driveways and sidewalks and into the garden/beds than it is to get them into those cumbersome leaf bags. If you have a landscaper, he should also charge less to blow the leaves to the edges instead. Remember, don't blow/rake them into the street as they'll clog up the sewers and then the to-do list will grow long again!Source: USA Today
