What Do You Do on a Snow Day?
So there's almost 20 inches of snow outside in Chicagoland. The obvious chore on this snowy day is shoveling- but beyond that, today is a perfect day to organize! Take advantage of the day off and time at home, seize the moment, and use this time to clear out, weed out and get systems in order. Taking the time to organize now will save you time and hassle in the future. When you're organized, you waste less time in the moment searching for misplaced things, not to mention the stress reduction. Here are some suggestions for projects you can start on today:
Foyer/Mudroom Closet: Hats, gloves, snowpants are certainly getting heavily used now. Take time to get items into bins or drawers and make sure hooks are handy. Weed out what's not being worn now and put only what you use in the room.
Storage areas: Did the Holiday items get thrown into the corner, or were they put away with thought and order? Take some time today to make sure all related Holiday items are in one place and organized.
Paper Deluge: Are you caught up on mail and incoming papers? Make use of the time today to paper sort. Get items on the calendar, pay bills, create a to-do list and file whatever you can.
Tax Time: Have you gotten your financial papers together for tax time? Cease the moment today and collect those receipts, print the reports and pull together any tax-related documents you can.
Taking the time to do some of these organizational projects today will save you the hassle of rushing through them in the future when you may not have the time. Enjoy the snow day, but do take some time to organize - later, you'll appreciate that you spent some time being productive.
