Friday Favorite: Plastic File Tote

It's tax season and the time of year when you should be making sure all of 2010's papers are making their way out of your office and either into the recycle bin or archived. This translucent plastic file tote is available at The Container Store,

you can also find similar file storage boxes at your local office supply. They are terrific because you can simply transfer your hanging file system right from your office drawer into the storage box using the same system. At Chaos to Order we recommend that our clients use hanging files for categories with 1/3 cut manilla files for the subcategories within. So when the year is over (or really when you're finished with tax preparation) you can simply transfer the files needing to be archived. The same box works whether you have legal or letter size files, just turn the box and hang your files on the plastic lip built into the edge. When you're finished filling the box, always make sure you label the front with the contents, there's nothing worse than working hard to organize and create a good system and then not be able to find what your looking for quickly. I prefer the plastic file box over the standard bankers box especially if there is ever risk of moisture where your files are being stored. The plastic boxes keep dust off of the papers and hold up great for long term storage. Check 'em out!
