Create Some Calm Before the New Year
December has a way of filling our calendars and our homes. Between holiday gatherings, school events, gift shopping and wrapping and end-of-year tasks, the month can feel wonderfully festive—and completely overwhelming. Before the new year arrives, this is the perfect moment to take a breath, create some calm and set yourself up for a fresh start in January.
A simple reset now can make a big difference later. Begin with the areas that feel the most chaotic; the kitchen counters buried under holiday prep, the entryway stacked with coats and boots or the living room that’s collecting everything from gift bags to delivery boxes. Clearing these high-traffic zones first gives you immediate breathing room.
Next, do a quick sweep of holiday decor. Before you start just putting every Chistmas trinket you’ve collected over the years, do an edit. Keep only what you love and eliminate what you don’t love. Being intentional about what you put out (and how much) will make your space feel less cluttered and more simply festive.
Finally, create clean surfaces. A kitchen island, desk or nightstand. A clear tidy spot has a grounding effect and helps you feel more in control, even if chaos still abounds in other rooms.
You don’t have to overhaul it all in December, you just need a few intentional steps to bring back clarity and calm. And if this month feel like too much, Chaos To Order is here to help you start the new year organized and ready for whatever comes your way in 2026.
