Back To School: Do your Kids have a Study Spot?
School is back in session--kids and homework are now a part of the nightly routine. One of the most important elements to success in school is getting that homework done promptly and properly. As parents, it's our job to provide a good place for kids to get their work done--by themselves. A comfortable study spot at a desk or table is essential. Where you set up that spot depends entirely on your household situation. If there's a desk available in the bedroom or just a spot at the kitchen table, anything will do, you just need to make sure it's a comfortable spot and that your child likes working there. A more independent child is good with a desk in their room, however some kids may feel isolated away from the activity, so a spot at a nearby table will do.Make sure the homework area is well lit. Lighting is an important element in any work environment. If your in a dark and dingy space, the desire to flee is greater, especially for kids who are looking for any excuse to find something else to do. The are should also have access to power for a computer, drawers or containers for any school supplies they might need including, pens, pencils, sharpener, paper, etc...Get your child off to a great start this year and spend some time creating a great study spot for them to get that homework done.
