Friday Favorite: Versatile Containers to Keep your Garage Organized

Garage OrganizationToday I was training a new organizer. We do training in my home, there's always a place that we can be challenged to kick up the level of organization. With three kids home for the summer, there's plenty of chaos to choose from. I brought our new organizer out into my garage and we worked to refine systems. My garage is my husband John's department. He likes a clean and organized garage more than anyone, but with kids coming and going and the busy-ness of life, even the best systems break down over time. He has a slat wall system and the Gladiator Garage shelving, hooks and bins. They are terrific because they are very versatile. You can move things around easily. First on the agenda, as with any organizing project, was to weed out and eliminate what we weren't using. There wasn't much to get rid of, John keeps a clear eye on what might be hanging around too long. He's sure to toss it quickly if it's not in use (especially if it doesn't belong to him haha). Garage OrganizationOnce we knew exactly what we needed to store, we started getting like things together. Then determining zones for kids sports items, tools, gardening, car care, etc... We added a few baskets and bins from Sterilite that are great in the garage. I've always gravitated towards clear bins with with white tops, but I love the way these black bins look in the garage, especially with the systems we currently have. The black weaved baskets worked perfectly inside the wire bins. The wire bins were too loose and things fell through them, but these plastic bins fit inside perfectly! It's good to think about the organization and "design" of your garage, because having good systems in place not only helps you to know where things are, but it can look great too!Garage Organization
